My Story, My Background, My Inspirations

“The quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives.”

- Esther Perel -

I believe we need connection to grow. Connection to ourselves and connection to others.

Here is my story of connection.

After almost a decade of being a stay-at-home mom, I took a position at the Vancouver Suicide Risk and Prevention Centre as a Crisis Counsellor. At this time, I had never heard of counselling. I just knew that I loved to help others.  I spent 5 years listening, learning and growing from the individuals in need.

This is where I learned that I could hear and understand the hearts of others. As a Crisis Counsellor, I was approached by many individuals asking if I worked privately and how could they access my services. So I began to explore the world of Counselling, which I knew nothing about.

It was everything I never knew I always wanted to do! I put my unfinished undergrad in biochemistry and microbiology to work in the area of human behaviour and neuroscience. I combined this with my years of being a mother and working in child and youth programs to position myself to help others.

But what is most impactful in my journey, was when I found myself raising my children alone. Working part-time, in school full-time and raising my now-adult children alone was challenging, not to mention the learning challenge that I have in the area of reading comprehension. I knew I needed to be in a position to help others and I was determined to make that happen.

My children have called me a child whisperer for my ability to connect with children so quickly. This includes hearing the voice that is within you, regardless of your age. My role is to connect with you, to help you hear yourself and to be comfortable in doing so.

I learned that a challenge is an opportunity for growth. That facing the things that scare us most can end up being deeply rewarding experiences. If you are looking for a counsellor, then you are seeking change. I have a proven track record of facilitating change in the lives of those I work with.
